Travelocity Desktop FareWatcher® FAQs

  1. How do I install Desktop FareWatcher onto my computer?
    • To download and install Desktop FareWatcher from the Internet, you can either run the file or save it to your computer. If you run the file it will install directly to your Sidebar. If you choose to save it, you will need to go to C > Users > (User Name) > Downloads and double-click on the file to install it in the Sidebar.
  2. Can I install more than one Desktop FareWatcher on my Sidebar?
    • You can install more than one, but only one set of your preferences will be stored on the computer. So although you can have multiple gadgets, they will all access the same origin airport and preferred destinations.
  3. When I download Desktop FareWatcher, where are the files stored on my computer?
    • You’ll find the Desktop FareWatcher files here: C > Users > (User Name) > AppData > Local > Microsoft > Windows Sidebar > Gadgets.
  4. How can I remove Desktop FareWatcher from the Sidebar?
    • To remove Desktop FareWatcher from the Sidebar, either right-click on it and click on “Close gadget” or click on the “X” to the right of the gadget in the Sidebar.
  5. How do I uninstall Desktop FareWatcher from my computer?
    • Windows Sidebar has a built-in uninstall feature. Just open the Sidebar Gadget Gallery, find the installed Travelocity gadget, right-click on it, and select Uninstall.
  6. What are the computer/system requirements to run Travelocity Desktop FareWatcher?
    • Our initial version is only available on computers installed with any version of Windows Vista. Soon, we hope to have other options available for use with Windows XP and possibly Mac OS X.
  7. Do I need an Internet connection?
    • Yes, you need an Internet connection in order to use all of Desktop FareWatcher’s functions.
  8. What if I have an Internet connection but Desktop FareWatcher still doesn’t work?
    • First check to see if it is a proxy or firewall issue. If you can reach http://rss.travelocity.com from your Internet browser then this doesn’t appear to be the problem.
    • Next, check to see if you have a cross-domain issue. Because our deals and quips are fed from different sources you must make sure that your Internet connection is set up to receive data from different domains. Within Internet Explorer 7: Click on the Tools button, scroll down and click on Internet Options, select the Security tab, click on the Custom Level button, scroll down to the Miscellaneous category, and click on Enable under Access data sources across domains. Save this setting and check the gadget to see if you can now shop for travel and receive flight deals (if you’ve already set your travel preferences)
  9. How do I set up my origin and destination preferences so that deals can be served right to my desktop?
    • Just click on the Roaming Gnome after you activate Desktop FareWatcher and then select your home airport and up to three destinations--that’s it!
  10. What if I don’t see my home airport or preferred destination(s) on the flight alert preferences tab?
    • We’ve pre-selected the origin airport and destinations that are most likely to offer flight savings. If you don’t see your home airport or preferred destinations in the drop-down lists, you can always check the latest prices at www.travelocity.com.
  11. What if I signed up to track three destinations in my preferences but I only see one served on Desktop FareWatcher?
    • Given Desktop FareWatcher’s limited space, we can only show you the fare with the largest savings on the deal board. If you want to see fares for the other destinations you selected, just click on the deal board and they will appear in a new flyout module if there are savings.
  12. Why are the flight prices displayed in Desktop FareWatcher sometimes different from what is displayed on the Travelocity Web site?
    • Instead of showing you prices for flights booked in the past, we show you pricing for flights available in the future. Each morning we shop for flights and since the prices change during the day, it’s possible the price displayed on the desktop may be different than what you see on the Web site.
  13. Does Desktop FareWatcher capture any personal information?
    • Desktop FareWatcher does not capture any personal information, just the origin and destinations you select in your preferences. See our privacy policy for more information.
  14. Does Desktop FareWatcher contain any adware, spyware, or viruses?
    • Rest assured, Desktop FareWatcher contains no adware, spyware, or viruses.
  15. How do I know if a new version of Desktop FareWatcher is available?
    • Desktop FareWatcher will alert you when we launch a new version.
  16. Can I provide feedback on Desktop FareWatcher?
    • Absolutely. Just click on the Preferences link in Desktop FareWatcher’s expanded mode, then click on the Feedback tab. You can send us your comments through the Feedback tab, or email them to us at rss@travelocity.com.
